The UWA Politics Club is run by Political Science and International Relations students and offers an opportunity for students to become informed about contemporary political issues and involved in political debate and discussion through forums, social events and the journal Incite.
The Club is a non-partisan organisation which provides an opportunity for university students to voice their opinions on a diverse range of political issues in a non-threatening, non-judgemental environment. It also aims to provide an avenue for students to gain an insight into, and better understanding of, current political issues.
A number of highly successful forums are held each year. The forums cover a diverse range of topical issues such as 'The War in Iraq' and 'Electoral Reform in Western Australia' with keynote speakers including Federal and State MPs.
A careers forum is held yearly. Former UWA Political Science and International Relations graduates speak to students about the value of their study in Political Science, the opportunities available to graduates, where their degree has taken them and their experiences in the workforce.
Incite, which is published periodically, is the UWA Politics Club's journal of political opinion and analysis. It provides an opportunity for a wide range of students' views to be published. The most recent edition contains articles on the war in Iraq; an assessment of the likely impact on global security of US plans for a missile defence system; a critique of the World Bank's role in perpetuating the problems of developing nations; an interview on the state of education in Vanuatu; the problems facing Medicare and, public education in Australia.
