Research
Jeannette’s research aims to promote a better
understanding and an improvement of the operations of public
organisations and governments. Her research focuses on public
administration and policy, particularly evaluating the impact of
recent administrative reforms on the public service. Although
most of her research focus on Australia, at both the Commonwealth
and state levels, she has also undertaken studies on East Asia
– Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Her work on improving
the performance of public organisations has included analysing
the effects of performance measurement and reporting systems on
employees’ behaviour and organisational outcomes; and the
utilisation of performance information for decision making within
public organizations. Her research on the public sector workforce
largely covers three areas: recruitment, retention, and
productivity. She examines both monetary and non-monetary
strategies to improve employee productivity. She has published
widely, and her work has appeared in international refereed
journals, such as Public Administration, Journal of Public
Affairs Education, and Public Performance and Management Review,
and the national refereed journal of Australian Journal of Public
Administration.
